Employees aren't asking for more. They are asking for better. And they’re not afraid to walk away if they don’t get it.
I don’t think expectations have changed as much as people have become more willing to walk away from workplaces that harm their holistic well-being. With more flexible income options just an app away, employees are no longer tied to environments that don’t respect them.
Leaders are now expected to treat people as humans with needs, feelings, and lives that don’t pause when the workday begins. Employees want to be seen, valued, and to belong, whether in person or virtually.
These expectations have always been part of great leadership. The difference now is that employees are holding leaders accountable for delivering on them.
How are you showing your team that they belong? Let’s rethink what accountability in leadership looks like.
